Sizzling Italian Sausage with Peppers and Onions

Ingredients:
– 4 Italian sausages (sweet or spicy, your choice)
– 2 tablespoons olive oil
– 1 large onion, sliced (preferably yellow or red)
– 2 bell peppers (1 red, 1 green), sliced
– 3 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 teaspoon dried oregano
– 1 teaspoon dried basil
– ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
– Salt and pepper to taste
– Fresh basil leaves for garnish
– Crusty Italian bread or hoagie rolls (for serving)
Instructions:
1. Cook the Sausages:
Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the Italian sausages. Brown them evenly on all sides, about 10 minutes. Once cooked through, remove the sausages from the skillet and set them aside.
2. Sauté the Vegetables:
In the same skillet, add olive oil. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers. Sauté for about 5 minutes until they become tender and slightly caramelized
3. Add Garlic and Spices:
Stir in the minced garlic, dried oregano, dried basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, letting the garlic become fragrant and the flavors meld.
4. Combine:
Slice the cooked sausages on a diagonal and add them back to the skillet with the peppers and onions. Mix everything together gently and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
5. Serve:
Garnish with fresh basil leaves and serve the sizzling mixture hot with crusty Italian bread or hoagie rolls for a delicious meal.
