Overnight Crème Brûlée French Toast

Ingredients:
– 5 large eggs
– 1 cup whole milk
– 1/4 cup unsalted butter
– 1 cup half-and-half
– 1 loaf French bread, sliced 1-inch thick
– 1 tsp vanilla extract
– 2/3 cup granulated sugar plus extra for topping
– 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
– 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
Instructions:
1. Start by generously buttering a 9×13-inch baking dish, making it nice and slick for your French bread.
2. Arrange the sliced French bread in a single layer in the baking dish.
3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, half-and-half, whole milk, vanilla extract, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
4. Pour this dreamy mixture evenly over the arranged bread, making sure every slice gets soaked with that delicious custard.
5. Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and let it chill in the refrigerator overnight.
6. The next morning, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius) and remove the plastic wrap from the dish.
7. Dot the tops of the soaked bread with small pieces of unsalted butter and a sprinkle of granulated sugar for that sweet crunch.
8. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the French toast is golden brown and puffed up.
9. Allow it to cool for a few minutes before sprinkling extra sugar on top. Then, broil for a brief moment to caramelize that sugar and create a lovely crust.
10. Serve warm with a drizzle of maple syrup on top and enjoy your decadent breakfast!
