Homemade Big Mac with Special Sauce
Ingredients:
For the Patties:
1 lb ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio)
Salt and pepper to taste
For the Special Sauce:
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1 teaspoon white vinegar
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon paprika
For Assembly:
2 sesame seed hamburger buns (one with the bottom split for a middle bun)
2 slices American cheese
4 dill pickle slices
1/2 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
Directions:
Prepare the Special Sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish, yellow mustard, white vinegar, sugar, onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix well and refrigerate until ready to use.
Cook the Patties: Divide ground beef into 4 equal portions and shape into thin patties. Season with salt and pepper. Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat and cook the patties for 2-3 minutes per side or until fully cooked.
Toast the Buns: Lightly toast the sesame seed buns in the same skillet or on a griddle.
Assemble the Burger:
Spread a generous amount of special sauce on the bottom bun.
Add a layer of shredded lettuce and finely chopped onion.
Place a beef patty and a slice of American cheese.
Add the middle bun and repeat the layer of special sauce, lettuce, onion, a beef patty, and pickle slices.
Finish with the top bun and secure with a toothpick if necessary.
