Giant Muffaletta Italian Sandwich

 

Ingredients:

1 large round loaf of Italian or French bread 🍞
1 cup olive salad (store-bought or homemade) 🫒
1/4 pound sliced mortadella 🥩
1/4 pound sliced salami 🥓
1/4 pound sliced capicola (or ham) 🍖
1/4 pound sliced provolone cheese 🧀
1/4 pound sliced mozzarella cheese 🧀
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil 🫒
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar 🍷
Freshly cracked black pepper to taste 🧂
Directions:

Prepare the Bread: Slice the round loaf in half horizontally. Scoop out some of the interior bread from both halves to create space for the filling.

Make the Olive Salad: If making homemade olive salad, mix chopped green and black olives, garlic, roasted red peppers, parsley, olive oil, vinegar, and spices. Spread half of the olive salad onto the bottom half of the bread.

Layer the Fillings: Start with a layer of provolone cheese, followed by the mortadella, salami, capicola, and mozzarella. Add the remaining olive salad evenly over the top of the meats and cheeses.

Top and Press: Place the top half of the bread over the fillings. Wrap the entire sandwich tightly in plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld.

Serve: Unwrap the sandwich and slice it into wedges or quarters for serving.
