Crispy Southern Fried Chicken

Ingredients:
1 (3-pound) whole chicken, cut into 8 pieces
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup buttermilk
Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions:
Brine the Chicken (optional): If you have time, brine the chicken pieces in a solution of 1 gallon water and 1 cup salt for 1-2 hours. This will help to keep the chicken moist.
Season the Chicken: In a shallow dish, combine flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using).
Dredge the Chicken: Dip each piece of chicken in the buttermilk, then dredge in the flour mixture, coating evenly.
Fry the Chicken: Heat vegetable oil in a large pot or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C). Carefully add the chicken pieces to the hot oil and fry for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
Drain and Serve: Remove the chicken from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauces, such as honey mustard, ranch, or BBQ sauce.
Tips:
You can use any type of chicken you like for this recipe.
For a spicier chicken, add more cayenne pepper to the flour mixture.
Serve the fried chicken with your favorite side dishes, such as mashed potatoes, coleslaw, or corn on the cob.
