Bacon and Cheese-Stuffed Tater Tots

Ingredients
🥔 For the Tater Tots:
4 cups frozen tater tots, thawed
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese 🧀
4 slices cooked bacon, crumbled 🥓
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder 🧄
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
🥄 For the Coating (Optional):
1/2 cup all-purpose flour 🌾
2 large eggs, beaten 🥚
1 cup breadcrumbs
🍽️ For Serving:
Ranch or sour cream for dipping
Chopped green onions or parsley for garnish 🌿
Directions
1️⃣ Prepare the Tater Mixture:
In a large bowl, mash the thawed tater tots until they form a chunky paste. Mix in cheddar cheese, crumbled bacon, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper until well combined.
2️⃣ Shape the Tater Tots:
Scoop about 1 tablespoon of the mixture and roll it into a small ball. Flatten it slightly, then shape it into a traditional tater tot form (cylindrical). Repeat with the remaining mixture.
3️⃣ Coat the Tater Tots (Optional):
Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls: one for flour, one for beaten eggs, and one for breadcrumbs. Coat each tater tot in flour, dip it in the eggs, and roll it in breadcrumbs.
4️⃣ Cook the Tater Tots:
Fried Version: Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C). Fry the tater tots in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 2–3 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
Baked Version: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the tater tots on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spray with cooking spray and bake for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crisp.
5️⃣ Serve:
Serve the tater tots warm, garnished with green onions or parsley, alongside your favorite dipping sauce.
Tips for Success:
Ensure the tater tots are well-thawed and mashed for easy shaping.
Add diced jalapeños or a pinch of cayenne for a spicy twist.
Use smoked gouda or pepper jack cheese for a flavor variation.
