Cheese-Stuffed Pretzels

Ingredients:
For the Dough:
2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
1 ½ cups warm water
1 tsp sugar
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 ½ tsp salt
2 tbsp melted butter
1 tbsp olive oil (for greasing)
For the Cheese Filling:
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp dried oregano (optional)
For the Boiling:
8 cups water
½ cup baking soda
For Topping:
Coarse salt (for sprinkling)
2 tbsp melted butter (optional, for brushing)
Procedure:
1. Prepare the Dough:
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and melted butter. Mix until the dough begins to come together.
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
2. Make the Cheese Filling:
In a bowl, mix together cream cheese, shredded mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and dried oregano (if using) until well combined. Set aside.
3. Shape the Pretzels:
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a long rope (about 12 inches long).
Flatten each rope slightly and place a generous amount of the cheese filling in the center. Carefully fold the dough over the cheese and pinch the edges to seal, shaping each piece into a pretzel.
4. Boil the Pretzels:
Bring 8 cups of water to a boil in a large pot, then add the baking soda.
Gently drop each pretzel into the boiling water one at a time for about 30 seconds, turning them halfway through. Use a slotted spoon to remove the pretzels and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
5. Bake:
Brush each pretzel with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse salt.
Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.
6. Serve:
Let the pretzels cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm and gooey!
These cheese-stuffed pretzels are perfect for snacking, dipping, or as a savory treat for gatherings!
