Classic Cabbage Rolls

Ingredients:
– 1 tablespoon olive oil
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1/2 medium onion, finely chopped
– 1 pound ground beef or turkey
– 1 cup cooked rice
– 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
– 1 teaspoon oregano
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
– 1 head of cabbage, leaves separated
– 1 tablespoon lemon juice
– 1 teaspoon sugar

Instructions:
1. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

2. In a large bowl, combine the cooked vegetables with the ground beef (or turkey), cooked rice, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

3. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Carefully blanch the cabbage leaves for about 2 minutes until they are soft and pliable. Remove the leaves and drain.

4. Place about 1/4 cup of the meat mixture in the center of each cabbage leaf. Fold the sides over and roll tightly from the stem end to the tip. Secure with a toothpick if necessary.

5. In a separate bowl, mix the tomato sauce, lemon juice, and sugar. Spread half of the sauce on the bottom of a baking dish.

6. Arrange the cabbage rolls seam-side down in the dish. Pour the remaining sauce over the top.

7. Cover with foil and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour, or until the rolls are cooked through.

8. Let the cabbage rolls sit for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your delicious, hearty meal!
